What is the Aotearoa Immunisation Register?
The Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) is an information system that records vaccinations New Zealanders have received or chosen not to receive.
The AIR system helps health professionals identify what vaccines a child has received and helps ensure that children receive their immunisations when they are due.
AIR has replaced the National Immunisation Register (NIR) in early December 2023.
What information is recorded on the AIR?
The following details are recorded in the AIR:
A person’s NHI, DOB, gender, vaccination event details and name of accompanying person (if applicable) will be recorded in AIR at the time of their vaccination. All other personal information associated with their NHI (such as name, address and ethnicity) will be sourced directly from the NHI register.
Who can access your information?
Only those who are authorised and have a role in managing a vaccination programme will be able to see, add or change information in the AIR. This may include vaccinators, other health professionals and administration staff. Everyone who accesses the AIR is trained to keep your personal information safe.
Can I see the information recorded on the AIR about my child?
Health New Zealand has now created "My Health Account" (https://identity.health.nz ) which allows you to view your own immunisation records, and those of your tamariki/children.
Parents and guardians can also request their child’s immunisation information from their doctor or the AIR team. You can also request correction of any information recorded for you or your child on the AIR.
If you live in Auckland or Waitematā areas, please contact the AIR team on 0800 929 999 or email AIR@adhb.govt.nz (if you live in the Te Toka Tumai Auckland Health area) or Aotearoa.ImmunisationRegister@waitematadhb.govt.nz (if you live in the Waitematā health area).
If you live overseas, please request your child’s immunisation information from the Te Whatu Ora AIR team in the area you used to live in before you moved overseas. The contact details can be found here - DHB contact details.
How does the AIR benefit me and my child?
Immunisations help protect your child from serious diseases. The AIR records your child’s immunisation history. This information helps your doctor or nurse find out what vaccines your child has been given and ensure your child has their vaccines on time.
Your child’s first immunisation is due when they are six weeks old. Please contact your doctor or practice clinic nurse to book an appointment.

What about COVID-19 Immunisation?
COVID-19 immunisation has been recorded on a separate register, however from 27 November 2023, COVID-19 vaccinations will also be included in the AIR system.
