Welcome to our new House Officers and Registrars

Haere mai to the House Officers and Registrars joining us this month. Welcome to the whānau, team.
It’s an exciting time of year as hundreds of new House Officers and Registrars join Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand() across the motu.

Glossary

  • House officer. Doctors in their first two years out of medical school who haven’t started speciality training yet.
  • Registrar. Once house officers are clear about what specialty they would like to train in, they will seek a registrar position in that field in their third year after graduating. Specialty training can take 4-6 years or longer depending on their choice.
  • Senior Medical Officer. When registrars complete their training programme, they become a specialist or consultant in their chosen field.

Visit Auckland Doctors() for more information on position types or terminology we use in Aotearoa New Zealand.
