Telephone and video appointments

Where possible, many of our outpatient appointments are being carried out by phone or video.

This can help the cost and time it would normally take to get to your onsite hospital appointment. Telephone and Zoom won’t be suitable for all appointments.

If you are invited to a telephone or video appointment, we will have made sure that the appointment is safe and appropriate for your care. Not all appointments can be done by video, for example if a physical examination is required.

What do I need for my phone or video appointment?

Phone appointment

For a phone appointment you will only need access to a phone, and a quiet place to take the call.

Video appointment

Your video appointment will be carried out using Zoom (a video conferencing tool). You will need access to a smartphone, computer, tablet (e.g. an iPad), or other device that has a camera, speaker, and microphone. Most home devices, including laptops and tablets, have all three built-in.

If you are having the appointment on your computer you only need to click on the link sent to you.

If you want to have the appointment on a hand-held device, you will need to download the Zoom app from the Zoom website(external link) or your device’s app store for free. When it’s time for your meeting, click on the link in your appointment email, or open the Zoom app and enter the meeting ID.

If you're still unsure you can find some more information more information here [PDF, 365 KB], or you can visit Zoom’s support page.(external link)
